Gorgeous Graduate

Formal photographs are important, as getting through you schooling years absolutely is something to dress up for and celebrate!

But in saying that, I don’t suggest doing formal photographs on the day of the formal. Hairdressers.nail technicians.makeup artists.dress fittings.cars.friends. augh it is too much already! And as this particular school has their formal/prom in winter the light is hard at that time of year to co-ordinate everything with. So what do I do? I do a shoot before or after the event. Then we can take our time, not be concerned by time limits or by the fact that it is a tad full on and stressful the day of your formal. This then means that you get much better photographs and a few variations in locations.

For this shoot we did it the Saturday before hand as Amelia had her hair and makeup trial then. We walked the city center and found a few spots that worked well. Here are a few samples:

Isn’t she just stunning? Congratulations Amelia, and all the best for the rest of your school year!

The best of friends

I photographed T last year for her formal, with her family. It was so great to meet her back then. She contacted me recently wanting to do a special shoot with her friend T who had just celebrated a fantastic birthday milestone! Yippee for me! It was nice to shoot two close friends today. I know that my friends are like my rock, and they all need to be loved and appreciated. How much fun to do a shoot together. Great idea too!

Girls, thanks for a fun afternoon – it was great to giggle with you!

Just like a princess

Yesterday S had her formal/prom. And today we had the opportunity to get her dressed up once again to take some images. Why do I do it this way? For time and less stress reasons. I like being able to take photographs at the best time of day (last hour before sunset), and I also like to not have a young girl so anxious and emotional about her formal night that her images don’t look relaxed. T (aka Mum) thought this sounded like a great plan as we could go to the beach and also get grandparents involved in the shoot. It was a wonderful afternoon. S looked just like a princess in her amazing gown – it was such a pretty colour!

S is one loved and supported girl. She was cheered on by Mum, Dad, brother, boyfriend and 2 grandmothers. All very sweet!

1 beautiful girl, 1 amazing (as in mind blowingly amazing) dress and one fashion shoot!!

Monday I received a call from Suri Creations asking if I could do a fashion shoot with a very short time frame. Luckily I was going to be going to a fun shoot (something I like to do from time to time for me!) and I had a model and another photographer who were ready to go anyways.

We went to a wonderful, rustic creation with our model (Ryley is also a great emerging photographer), an amazing gown and the designers. It was all systems are go. It was such a fun afternoon and something I would really adore to do again. So if you are a business out there wanting some fashion shots that stand out be sure to give me a call!

This gown was hand made, completely. Suri Creations spin the fleece and then hand crochet the gown together. These are one off gowns, and something that certainly will see a bride stand out from the crowd. From a photographer point of view, they are such a flattering, elegant and unique dress to photograph. Also very practical for some different sort of fashion like shots. Oh how I loved it!!

Anyway, thought I would share a few of the images (and will update you once I know what image makes the magazine):

Formals are coming…..

The formals around the region are starting to sneak up on us quickly. Do you have a photographer organised as yet? I plan on offering a different sort of formal shoot this year, instead of doing your photographs on the day of your formal I would like to see you before the exciting (and rushed) event.

How?

Most girls get a hair and makeup trial for their formal and this is when I want to see you. We can then have an afternoon session with you looking beautiful and in your dress. Time isn’t an issue, and we can do a more creative shoot with time on our side.

But I am a BOY!!

That’s fine, put that funky suit on and lets go for it. It is the same principal as the girls, we will have more time and therefore more shots can be taken and in a much more creative way!

Creative shots?

Open fields, long grass, funky chairs, urban/street shots. You name it I am up for it.

Can my parents come? What about my siblings?

Please, let the whole family come – we may as well make it a family session while we are at it. Of course the focus is on the graduate, but we can incorporate the family into your session.

Interested?

Please get in touch for some more information about your formal shoot. I would love to hear from you. Gone are the shots of you and your formal partner out the front of the house – think creative and funky guys! I promise it will be a blast and you will get to enjoy your actual formal a lot more not having to rush for photographs! Hoping to hear from you soon!
