The gift of giving, Mothers' Day 2009

Last week I realised how fortunate I am to have my Mum. I got a phone call from my husband saying “your Mum  has been taken to hospital, it has been touch and go but they think she will be alright.” You know when you feel yourself walking, but you don’t know if you are actually moving at all? Not nice at all! My Mum is fine now, but she did come dangerously close to not being here. It made me think, yet again how much I love her and how fortunate I am that together as a family we take a lot of photographs.

I don’t however have many images to look at of my Mum from when she was my age (young!! hehe!). Do you have many of your Mum to look at from her younger days? Do your children have these precious, priceless images at all? Imagine being able to show great-great-grandchildren one day what your Mum looked like!

I find that a lot of women don’t like having their photograph taken, as Mothers we don’t get that time to take out for ourselves as we are always putting everything and everyone before us! Maybe for your Mum you could give a gift to her and in turn future generations of your family.

A photoshoot *just* for Mum! One where we get to celebrate the woman that she is, the beautiful nurturer and soft place to fall. The one that really makes us feel like it will all be ok – as she said it would be! This is aimed to be a fun and joyous occassion for your special Mum/lady!

This photo shoot includes the following:

In house consultation, including wardrobe and accessories assistance

Up to 2 hours total of fun, laughs and photographs

Lunch and champage

1 Album containing 10 5×7 images (chosen by Mum)

TOTAL of $300

Dates are filling up very quickly leading up to Mothers’ Day, so please email or call asap to secure your date and time ($100 booking fee required, subtracted from the total cost). I know by taking a lot of self portraits last year during my image-a-day I realised what a great gift I have now got to give my daughters, and their children etc etc. Here are a few more to share with you:

Little things are everything!

My girls. They are the little things that are everything in my life. To feel G come climbing into my bed in the early mornings for a snuggle, to hear M and her amazing natural talent on the violin. Their giggling together while playing a game makes me breath deep and feel love!

A lot of the time I don’t put too much up of my girls, as I didn’t want to appear as a “Mum with a camera” but the other day after chatting to an amazing photographer she made me realise something. I am a Mum with a camera! Being a Mum has helped define me as a photographer. I know what it is like to want to freeze time, to remember that expression or that cheeky smile with missing teeth! Being a Mother helped me to have more passion for my photography and to take the step to make this into a business. And a business that I love and adore I might add! Let me say I am a Mum with a Camera, and very proud of it also!

This weekend I wanted to do a shoot for me, something I don’t always have time to do.  I took the girls to my favourite location for a few shots. They were so happy and free that afternoon, and willing little models “oh I’ll go here Mummy and sit like this”. They are so sweet! My favourite thing about my girls is their love for each other, they are (most the time) great little friends and love to cuddle up and be squishy! Here is an image of our time together, one I will cherish for life I know.

Farewell Anne

Last year I was part of a beautiful gift. A client (and now great friend!) J, wanted to organise a photo shoot for some friends of hers. Anne was diagnosed with cancer and her future was uncertain. Soon after the shoot they moved to Sydney to seek further medical help. Unfortunately I received the very sad news last week that Anne had lost her battle to cancer and had passed away.

It made me stop.breath.stop.sigh

My heart goes out to T and K who have lost their beautiful Mum, who now have to live a life with part of it missing. I know that your prayers will pull you through and you will feel the strength and love of your Mum as you continue on your journey through life. To have had J organise this shoot and give this lifelong gift to you was truly a blessing. Thank you J for your amazing gift, for letting me be part of it also.

Finally, an image of this beautiful family – one that speaks so loud and forevermore!

{Photographs are gifts that are treasured for a long time after you have been on this earth. I know there are so many people who are suffering and in need of these memories. Please contact me if you require assistance for a family in need. Remembering that my photography is something I am happy to share and use to lighten the load of those struggling}.

Special times

Today was a great day for a photo shoot. We have had 6 days of rain, well more showers – but still wet weather. Today the skies cleared and there was great cloud cover to make for some lovely light! This gorgeous family have been good friends of ours for some time now, with both our girls going to kindy with the younger two here (Mr C and Miss S). In fact our G and S use to say they were “twins” – even though S is very tall for her age and G very short!! They are great friends still!!

I also today got to meet M, who is C and S’s older brother who lives a few hours away. It was fantastic that he was able to come and complete this loving family for the shoot. J and S, thanks for being wonderful sports – and for putting up with that strange feeling when someone you know is taking your photograph! Again, happy belated birthday J, and I hope you all enjoy your weekend together. See you soon x

A beautiful little Angel!

Today is raining, overcast and a *perfect* day for a nice looong nap! I am so glad that baby A thought the same (though apparently I heard last night there wasn’t so much sleeping going on!). I love babies at this age 7-10 days is the prime time for these types of shoots.

And it seems I might have a tag line: “Susan Wall – Photographer of the most beautiful and soulful families in town!”. T and R watching you as a family was beautiful, your love for little A is a gift! I can’t wait to see you again soon!
